Pattern sheet application

Step 1:

To cover panels or larger areas of your shoe you will need the following: the printed Sneakskin Pattern Sheet, the unprinted Sneakskin Template Sheet, a strip of Tear-Offs, clean sharp scissors, a ball-point pen and a light coloured shoe; ideally white.

Step 2:

Before you do anything, have a plan in mind or sketched out on paper, how you’re going to customise the shoe and where to place the Sneakskin.

Step 3:

Wash and dry your hands and shoes! If your hands or the shoes are not clean it could spoil everything as Sneakskin may not stick well if it gets dirty.

Step 4:

Take your Sneakskin Template Sheet and size up a piece large enough to easily cover the area of the shoe you intend to customise.

Step 5:

Cut out the piece you intend to use to create the template.

Step 6:

Peel away the film from the backing paper as you apply it to the shoe. Try and avoid wrinkles and air bubbles if you can and try not to stretch the Sneakskin as you apply it onto the shoe. If you do, your finished Template might not be very accurate.

Step 7:

Once the film is in place, draw completely around the edge of the area you want to customise with the ball-point pen.

Step 8:

Slowly and carefully remove the film from the shoe.

Step 9:

Firstly, read step 10 and then start to lay the template film directly onto the Pattern Sheet. You might want a specific detail or feature of the Pattern Sheet graphic to be placed in a particular position on your shoe. You can do this by carefully lying the template sheet over the detail or feature you want to highlight.

Step 10:

Before the Template film is completely stuck down, insert one of the Tear-Offs between the Template film and Pattern Sheet.

Step 11:

Using the scissors, cut around the shape you have drawn.

Step 12:

Using the Tear-Off, separate and peel away the Template from the Pattern Sheet. Do this carefully making sure the Pattern doesn’t come away from the paper at the same time.

Step 13:

You can keep the Templates you’ve made in the folder you received with your order. This allows you to use them again the next time you want to customise the same pair of shoes.

Step 14:

Hold up the cut out shape against the panel to be customised to check it for size and fit.

Step 15:

Start applying the Pattern film by peeling away a corner from the Backing Paper. Carefully and accurately position it into a corner or along an edge of the panel to be customised.

Step 16:

Slowly and carefully apply the remaining film to the rest of the panel, peeling away the backing paper as you go. You can peel back and re-apply the film only if you really need to.

Step 17:

Press the edges of the film into the seams with your scissors or fingernails (if you stretched the film at all in application, you may need to do this again for a day or so until it totally settles down.).

Step 18:

Smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles with your thumb.

Step 19:

Job done, nice one!

Removal

Step 1:

Unpick the edge or a corner of the sneakskin on the shoe. Peel it off very slowly and steadily. Try to pull the sneakskin at a sharp angle to avoid leaving glue residue on the shoe.

Step 2:

You probably wont need to clean your shoe (and the film will keep it nice and clean underneath). However, if some glue remains you can remove it by rubbing and rolling with clean fingers. When most of the residue is removed, you can finish up by rubbing the shoe very gently with a cleaning solution or a light solvent. For more useful tips on glue removal and how to avoid any damage to your shoe see our FAQ section.
