Custom artwork tutorial

Step 1:

Think of a cool subject for your design. We will only accept high quality, original artwork of things we don’t already have or a brand new take on an existing theme.

Step 2:

Try to relate your idea to one of our tags. We think we've got most stuff covered but if you have a fantastic idea that wont fit into a tag please email us.

Step 3:

Once you have your idea you can either download either of our templates or use your own artwork creation software. Check out the templates in the box on the right.

Step 4:

If you decide to use Adobe Illustrator, create your design but keep within the artboard set-up in the template as this is our exact print area. The template has a square box of guidelines to help you see what area of artwork will be taken for the thumbnail preview. The sneakart colours have been created to get best results with our printer, if you want to use other colours it will probably look OK but we cannot guarantee they will print out how you expect.

Step 5:

It's not a big deal but do consider the website thumbnail preview when you create your artwork. You can find this in the Illustrator template as a guideline. The thumbnail area is 105mm x 105mm and will be taken 5mm up from the bottom edge of the artwork and 75mm from the left edge of the artwork.

Step 6:

In the templates you will also find shoe previews to help you work out the scale of your artwork. The large is for men, the medium is for ladies and the small is a kids shoe.

Step 7:

You must own all aspects of your illustration and don’t infringe any copyrights. Please don’t include any logos or icons, such as a Nike Swoosh or photos that you don’t have rights to. See our FAQ for more details.

Step 8:

Once your design is complete please export as a HIGH QUALITY JPEG file at 300dpi. Your artwork DIMENSIONS must be 29cm × 22cm (11 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches). Colour settings should be CMYK. (If you created artwork in illustrator please export as a jpeg with the following settings - Image quality: maximum, Color Model: CMYK, Format: Baseline (standard) and Resolution: Custom 300dpi.)

Step 9:

If you want to go public with your design, the next step is to think of a title and to choose the relevant tags. You can choose up to 3 tags so please select the most fitting to your design. Next write a short description, please put in your web address if you want to promote yourself or your website. We may edit this description so that people can search for your artwork easily.

Step 10:

When you are ready to upload, click on the Custom Upload page and follow the onscreen instructions. When we receive your artwork one of our team will carefully review it then send you an accept or decline email. If we have to reject your file we will explain why in the email.

Step 11:

Once an artwork is accepted we will send you a link within 3 business days and you will be able to purchase the file using this link. You can acess your artwork anytime you log in to your account. If you select to go public others will also be able to browse and buy your design and it will show in our tags and in the Public section of the store.

Step 12:

The sales of your artwork will show in your user account. Once you reach £25 or equivalent currency amount in royalties you can choose to claim your earnings and we will send you the amount by PayPal. You can also opt to give your earnings to charity.

Please see our Terms and Conditions for information on copyright related issues and how your artwork will be used by sneakart.
